Acute necrotizing encephalopathy of childhood

INTRODUCCIÓN

Acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) of childhood is a rare entity with low incidence and prevalence with the following diagnostic criteria: presence of acute encephalopathy with rapid deterioration of consciousness, absence of serum hyperammonemia, increase in cerebrospinal fluid proteins with absence of pleocytosis, neuroimaging studies with multifocal and symmetrical lesions that involve the thalamus, and clinical absence of other diseases that resemble ANE.
